Tibetan Ritual Headdress — Lama Crown, Silver with Semi-Precious Stones
<< View Previous Item    View Next Selection >>

Despite its date, this Lama's crown is well made and is a remarkable acquisition for the Tibetan collector. Silver with semi-precious stones, the richly tooled metalwork forms a 5-skull Crown. Figures of Buddhas and bodhisattvas in their wrathful form often display this type of 5-skull headdress. Over the decades of wear, the cloth headband has been repaired twice with the original replaced. There is one welded repair to a post that joins with a top ornament, however it does not affect the appearance. The estimated value below takes into consideration the silver content, as well as the significant religious implications of such an extraordinary piece of Buddhist culture.
