18th Century Bronze Gilt — Amitayus, Tibetan Buddha of Longevity

This late 18th century, Chinese casting of Amitayus (Ch'ang-sheng-fo), displays his well-adorned crown of gold. Long flowing hair, tied with ribbons, drapes over shoulders. He has one face and two hands in 'The Gesture of Meditation"— the joining of the two thumbs in this gesture promises development of one's enlightened mind. Known also as the Buddha of Immeasurable Life, the practice of Amitayus' life-extending methods still exists in Tibet today.
